That age old dilemma of when to treat small cavities has now become less subjective due to the use of a diagnostic laser. Diagnodent is a small device that can detect early cavities and help determine when the cavity needs to be restored with a filling. No more watching a lesion until it eventually becomes so large that it is obvious that it needs to be treated. Instead, very early, when they are small, we can treat only the necessary lesions with an appropriate filling. The cavities not requiring a filling, known as incipient decay, may be a candidate for remineralization therapy to reverse the disease process. This approach provides for the best possible care for our family of patients.
